What Is Cerebral Palsy And Its Symptoms

If we talk about the human body, every organ in our body is designed to do a specific work. Heart’s function is to pump the blood and lungs are used to provide oxygen from our surroundings. Stomach is there to digest the food we eat and kidneys are there to filter and purify our blood. Hence all the organs in our body work in coordination. However, there is one organ in our body who is the king, without its permission, no organ is allowed to do anything. That is, the brain. Brain weighs only 2% of our total body weight, but it takes almost 20% of the total body energy to work. Brains controls each and everything in our body even if you are blinking your eyes, it’s because your brain is commanding that. This means that a little damage to this organ can cause serious complications and one of those complications is cerebral palsy. This is a condition that is caused when there is some damage to the baby’s brain before the birth. After the baby is born, the symptom starts appearing and even becomes more visible when he grows up.

Following are the few symptoms that start appearing in the baby:

  • Poor muscle coordination:

One of the visible symptoms of cerebral palsy is poor muscle coordination. This is the reason why babies show slow growth and delayed response. Some people feel pain while doing normal activities like breathing, hearing etc. In this disease, muscles do not coordinate with each other which mean you might also experience some kind of involuntary movements too.

  • Night blindness:

Another symptom is night blindness. During this disease, the patient is unable to see anything in the night. Some patients also get totally blind due to the damage to the optic nerve in the brain.

  • Abnormal posture:

As we know that muscle fail to interact with each other, this also results in the abnormal posture of the patient. Some people think that they do it on purpose, but this is not the case. They are unable to control their own muscles. Just imagine the pain, when you can’t even control your own body.

  • Intellectual disabilities:

Cerebral palsy is related to the damage of the cerebrum of the brain, which is part of the brain responsible for the thinking and intellectual abilities. People who suffer from this disease also have the chance of having their thinking abilities compromised. However, this is not necessary. There are patients who are equally competent as the normal people. This means its chance varies from person to person. On the other hand, there are people who are mentally retarded because of this condition.

If your child or some relative is suffering from cerebral palsy and it’s because of the doctor’s negligence, you can file cerebral palsy negligence claims against the doctor and the hospital staff. Although no one can cure it properly, you can get maximum compensation on it. So don’t sit back and wait. Stand up for your rights.
